Since its network debut on September 21, 1993, NYPD Blue continues to set new standards for the police drama genre. Each week audiences of thousands tune in to watch the gritty, reality of life in a New York Police unit.

Two partners, Detectives Andy Sipowicz and John Kelley (later replaced by Bobby Simone) are the central characters who show very different approaches to their difficult jobs. Each character in the show is portrayed very realistically, with excellent acting; the characters all struggle to devote themselves to the pursuit of justice and with the volatile backdrop of New York City the gritty realism is brought to a climax.

The programme shows the real danger and chaos in the streets of New York City and shows a strong bond between the members of the 15th Precinct, with their dedicated commitment to their job and each other.

The show has received an astounding 82 Emmy nominations, winning 19. Originally created by Steven Bochco and David Milch the show broke every record with 27 Emmy nominations its first season. It won the coveted award for Outstanding Drama Series in its sophomore year, and received Emmy Awards for writing and directing in the fourth and fifth seasons. This just proves the popularity and success of the show.

There were 12 series of "NYPD Blue" made. Are there any plans to air anything other than the first two series? Or, when this, (series 2), finishes, are we to expect yet another re-run of series 1, as happened a couple of months ago?
