Lovejoy played by Ian Mcshane is what's known as a divvy in the antique business. He can smell a real antique in a room full of fakes. He's also something of an amateur sleuth, aided by his sidekicks, Tinker played by Dudley Sutton and Eric played by Chris Jury.

Other regular characters include Lady Jane Felsham played by Phyllis Logan, Beth played by Diane Parish, Charlotte Cavendish played by Caroline Langrishe and Charles Gimbert played by Malcolm Tierney.

This series is based on the 'Lovejoy' books, written by Jonathan Gash. Ian Mcshane liked the novels so much he bought the screen rights.
