McCoy and Southerlyn are determined to get a driver to face a murder charge after a hit-and-run victim was left to die. But, when evidence shows the homeless man died as a result of an earlier beating, the investigation has to begin again from scratch - which leads to an ambitious defence of the real perpetrator on the grounds that life on the streets is lived by a different sets of rules.
