Morse is called in to investigate when a wealthy American tourist is found dead in her hotel, apparently the victim of a heart attack. But the Oxford detective discovers that her death is somehow linked to the disappearance from the Ashmolean Museum of a priceless Anglo-Saxon antiquity - the Wolvercote Tongue.
