Crime drama. An unidentified burnt body draws Inspector Gently and Detective Sergeant Bacchus into the shadowy world of IRA gun-running, and into direct opposition with a ruthless Special Branch officer. Martin Shaw reprises his role as Inspector George Gently, whose impassioned investigations reveal the dark underbelly of a society on the cusp of change. The dramas are set in the Northumberland of the mid-1960s and are based on the Inspector Gently novels by Alan Hunter.
