Emma (Dervla Kirwan) is in a seven year relationship with Mark Rose (Damian Lewis), with whom she has a son Sam (Joel Pitts). Although she loves his brother Richard (Hugo Speer) - a butcher, she marries him anyway.

Richard lives with his girlfriend Louise (Amanda Holden) but he finds the temptation of an affair with his brother's wife far too hard to resist especially when his relationship with Louise comes under strain during her mother's illness.

Emma's 'single' best friend Amanda (Sarah Parish) has just split up with Michael (Andrew Scarborough) and Sinead (Rose Keegan) is besotted with Mark but turns to the Internet for love when he marries Rose.

Richard and Mark's younger brother Robbie (Kieran O'Brien) comes to London for the wedding of his elder brother and decides to stay and pursue his hobbies of beer and women.
