Carol and Kerry treat a woman with Sanfillipo syndrome and have trouble getting consent from a legal guardian to allow them to perform a vital surgical procedure, which is eventually refused so the crew have to find a way to supersede this decision. Difficult decisions have to be made when a pregnant woman has to decide between the baby and a life saving organ transplant. Carter has to deal with a diabetic teenager who is in a serious condition after his father has refused to buy his medication until his medical insurance starts. Meanwhile Finch and Peter are reprimanded over their handwriting after a constipated patient is wrongly prescribed a life-threatening drug. Mark gets angry at Corday after she and his father decide that he should go in a home rather than let Mark care for him.
