Ricky Abbott returns to the ER where Doug goes to extreme lengths to allow Joi (Ricky's mother) to treat her son at home. Romano is later named Acting Chief of the ER while blackmailing Corday to back out of the sexual harassment allegations. Doug is quietly and secretly up to something. Mark treats a disturbed Nigerian janitor for back pain and uncovers a troubled past. Carol and the nurses get to dog-sit dozens of dogs while their owner is hospitalised. Meanwhile while teaching 3 med students, Carter diagnoses one of them to have Hodgkin's disease, and starts to search for her biological parents after discussions over genetics at work.
