Mark has a tough time trying to balance work, a visit from his lawyer, who wants to shadow him and a growing relationship with Cynthia. Jeanie decides to take legal action over her dismissal, and then faces a complicated dilemma concerning Al and his new job. Carter decides to protect a patient's civil rights for which he is arrested, for destroying evidence, while locked up Del Amico comes to his rescue. Peter and Corday have a tough decision to make regarding a young woman who has been in a car accident, leading them to a discussion over whether they help people for the patients' sake, or their lust for a challenge. On Doug's return from California he comes to the aid of a sickle cell patient whose medication has been stolen and Kerry has refused to give painkillers to.
