Hathaway returns to work after recovering from her suicide attempt and the ER staff welcome her back, where Doug asks her on a date but she refuses saying he's only feeling guilty over her accident. Dr. Greene confronts a family which is victimized by domestic violence. Susan is called up infront of the review board after wrongly treating a cardiac patient. Marks' wife goes to a very important job interview and a mysterious 'Madame X' arrives at the ER and bursts into song and teaches Carter a valuable lesson in compassion - a trait he is currently lacking.
