An involving case for our chalk and cheese detectives in the series from the unusual mind of Reginald Hill. When the body of Efrona Davis, an entertainer at Wayland Bay Holiday Village, is washed up on the beach, Pascoe faces an investigation without Dalziel, who is on leave. The suspects include Wayland Bay's resident comedian Rowan Priestley, and Efrona's lay-preacher father Matthew. Pascoe soon realises he's out of his depth.
