Mystery drama, based on the award-winning novels of Reginald Hill, featuring an experienced policeman who is teamed up with a precocious graduate. Dalziel witnesses a shooting and is unconvinced when the chief suspect claims it was a suicide. With no evidence, he sets out on a one-man crusade to secure a conviction. But events take an odd turn when Dalziel finds himself appearing in a play along with the suspect.
