Joyce faints while at home and, while the gang is at the hospital, Dawn discovers that Riley's heartbeat is beating too fast, but Riley ignores it. When Buffy enlists the Initiative's help, Riley becomes angry and runs away. However, he eventually admits to Buffy that he's afraid she will lose interest in him if the Initiative turn him back into a normal man. Buffy eventually manages to get Riley to the Initiative doctor, only to find that Spike has forced the doctor to remove his chip.
