Ashes To Ashes (2008)
Running Time: 60 minutes (approx)Production Year: 2008Production Country: UKAfter a gripping finale to the critically-acclaimed and multi award-winning Life On Mars on BBC One, Kudos, Monastic Productions and the BBC are delighted to announce the next chapter - Ashes To Ashes. DCI Gene Hunt (Philip Glenister) is back but he's no longer the self-styled "Sheriff of Manchester". Flanked by his faithful sidekicks, Ray Carling (Dean Andrews) and Chris Skelton (Marshall Lancaster), and drawn to the action and intrigue of the London Met, Gene turns his attentions to taking on the "southern nancy" criminal scum. However, Gene does not expect to be thrown together with sexy, intelligent, DCI Alex Drake. Single mother to daughter Molly, Alex has rapidly risen through the ranks of the Met and, in the modern world of 2008, skilfully uses psychological profiling to capture suspects. When Alex and her daughter are kidnapped she makes a daring attempt at escape, resulting in a horrific accident. Alex suddenly finds herself in 1981 interacting with familiar characters, not just from her own life-time, but also from the detailed reports logged by none other than Sam Tyler, which Alex has previously spent months pouring over. Alex is ripped from her current world of sexual equality and respect in 2008 and finds herself opposite an arrogant fellow DCI in a Two Tone, New Romantic Eighties London with a soundtrack of Adam Ant, Roxy Music and The Human League ringing in her ears. Alex finds some of Gene's team has dispersed yet others, loyal as ever, are still in tow. Now a technological whizz-kid in the squad's surveillance team, DC Chris Skelton has clearly moved with the times, along with a tight-permed DS Ray Carling who's keen to experience London's nightlife. Frustrated by each other's stubbornness, the friction between Alex and Gene heats up. However, as the two titans collide, it becomes apparent there is more than just a professional tension emerging. When is Ashes To Ashes next on TV?

I did mail before but got no reply; not to worry. Loved the first episode- I was only really confused once, when Layton appeared just the same in 1981 as he did in 2008. Am I missing something? I wish I had aged this way!!!
Well done on a great start!!
Is there a soundtrack to the series please let me know.
The original series ended with Sam discovering that he was actually conscious in the 1970s and that the 2006 was his coma period. This was an excellent twist although it left more questions unanswered. Why does the Radio Tiimes say that he 'killed himself' when in fact he did not!
Series two looks promising, but it's sad to hear that this will be the last we see of Gene Hunt. I'd like to see another spin off, continuing the Bowie Theme it could be called "Absolute Beginers" - with a basic plot line that Gene is involved in a car accident/Shot/electrocuted or has some other mishap, and wakes up in 2009 - the same Hunt but struggling to cope in a world of political correctness, ABS, Traction control, laptops, SatNav and DNA, not to mention the shackles of the Police And Criminal Evidence Act and the Human Rights Act. The added twist would be he is now a mere Detective Constable - hence the absolute beginer tag, and his car woudl have to be something like the new Vauxhall Signum - suitably space age (to Gene) and bristling with gizmos.
So come on Beeb scriptwriters, there's the idea, get scribbling!
Before this week's episode of Ashes to Ashes began, it was announced that we were going to see something that was perfectly acceptable in 1982. I wonder, what was that? I thought it might be eating chips out of newspaper, but then realised that has not been done since the 1960s. Was it that, if so, did they eat chips out of newspaper into the 80s up North, and if it wasn't that, what was it? I'm curious to know!
Just as it gets really good it ends . Philip Glenister is this show and Keeley Hawes is also brilliant as the rest of the cast, but why stop now?i was a great fan of life on Mars , and now Ashes, please bbc 1 , tell Phill and Keeley they can not stop now, good tv is hard to find, there are too many reality shows, and the past, 1981, has made us realise where we had it so good in comparison to 2009,if this programme entertains us so well, then please continue, people need this right now, why does all things good have to end in such a horrible 2009.i have hope that the cast will continue.
Could someone please tell me what happened at the end of ashes to ashes in the last episode, dvd cut off. Last saw alex with a bandage on her head in hospital. was she back in todays world or not?
