Her suffering and shame has been well hidden for over 160 years, find out why in the book "Wildflower" The Barbara Crawford Thompson Story. The book used by the Ray Mears Show. There is only one book that covers her life story and that id "Wildflower".

How about Amazon De, they must have been swamped by calls for the book "Wildflower" The Barbara Crawford Thompson Story. The decided to advertise the book for sale at 3 Euros with Christmas wrapping during the four weeks of December and that included free delivery. Amazon De even included a {Translate this page} with their heading and even supplied full details on the book including the Synopsis and the 13 number ISBN. The one thing they over supplied was the ten number ISBN which the book has never had. All this was done without the permission of the Author and it gave him quite a fright, he thought Amazon De had access to Pirated material of had made and were sell ing CD's or perhaps had made an electronic copy of the book. Turns out it was just a ploy [hopefully] to get people to join Amazon De and buy other books, when people got onto the site, they found the book was not available as stock had not arrived.

For the benefit of my readers, the book is only available from the Author, signed and delivered free form Australia, it is on sale at $31.95 Australian or about 14 pounds or so through Pay Pal. Delivery takes about eight days. If you find that this type of scam is operating in your area, please complain to the powers that be. Big fish eating little fish can sometime cause big fish a belly ache because hook inside.

A new book was launched not long before Ray Mears arrived in the Torres Strait in 2007. That book was Wildflower The Barbara Crawford Thompson Story. For 160 years her story has been little known and history left her behind until the Author of this self-published book ended his 21 year research on her life. What he has found in that time has changed her story considerably. He has relied on proper certification and has proven facts that were unknown until now. Had it not been for the natives telling Ray Mears of her drama and had it not been for Ray mears looking for book material on the subject, this book probably would have remained a quiet little publication. Google the full title and see what people in the UK think about the "Wildflower"

I am a decendant of the 'natives' that rescued Barbra Thompson and I am the daughter of the last chief elder of my tribe. Every generation in my tribe have grown up knowing about our 'Giom' which was given to her by my father's line, the then chief/prince of Muralag (prince of wales Island). Barbra is intertwined into my tribe and to this day is very much family, we have a great deal of respect for her and would never disrespect her name or the generation of her families in any way, she remains a part of us spiritually. I never tire from a young age having my father tell me ova and ova the story of Barbra and my ancestors, I am 33 years of age and my father has since passed 4 years ago, I can recall every words told, thats how we learn through story telling, generation after generation. Although I have not read the book, but would like to, I prefer to take truths from teachings of our oldest and wisest, reason being, I have had countless debates with my history teacher's at the Waibene State School (Thursday Island), thats thanks to those history books (although I'm a bookworm and love books) because i did not agree with what they were teaching me, it clashed with what i was taught at home by father and my people- my father as a chief was a man of truth. Although too, I have not seen the documentaries my sister Enid, the oldest of us did part take and Ray had to constantly consult with her on cultural sensitivity of what was shared or needed to be shared and importantly that Barbra's story was accurate in what we were taught and told. I am so happy that 'Giom' story is told because it needed to be told- one of my personal favourite is when Barbra was kidnapped by our near Island neighbour the 'Kulkalgal' or 'Budualgal' they stole her deep in the night, once found that 'Giom' was missing that following morning, the war ships of the 'Kaurareg' tribe set out to get her back, to the 'Kulkalgal or Budulgal' surprise a warfare was at hand, my ancestors though quiet people are not a tribe to be messed with especially if joined with the tribe of the coast of the Northern Peninsula Area of the tip of the Queensland coast the 'Gudang' as they are our blood relatives (to this day we maintain our relastionships). Turned out out the Chief of our Island neighbour wanted to marry 'Giom' without the consent of the the Chief of Muralag, to avoid slaughter because the number's of our warships and men willing to fight, the chief handed 'Giom' back. At the time of the shipwreck when Barbra was rescued, the chief of Muralag had lost a daughter and when Barbra was found being 'white' she was thought of a 'Markai' a ghost of the dead chiefs daughter, so every protection was there for her. My father told me that she had to learn the language to be able to communicate with our ancestors and lived quite peacefully among them. There were times when ships passed or pulled up ova night or for a period of time, my ancestors would darken her skin with charcole so know one would recognize her for fear of being taken away again like the 'Budualgal'. My ancestors did not know who she was or where she came from, she was to them just simply a ghost of the chiefs daughter that had come back to be among them and too she was never to marry anyone no matter how anyone would try to kidnap her or how much the price was and I don't mean in currency- rather a barter (which was what the chief of the 'Budualgal' tried to negotiate and upon failing kidnapped 'Giom'). Please excuse any spelling mistake, it is late and i'm awfully tired, I have 3 boys to wake up to the youngest only just turned 2. In a weird sense, my partner- their dad, is of scottish heratage and his mum has not lost an inch of her scottish accent which I love. Good night to all and thanks for letting me share.

I have sent a copy of my Book Wildflower The Barbara Crawford Thompson Story to Enid and sadly, it was picked up from the mail by someone else who now has Enid's book, it was signed to her so who ever took it had better have the name Enid.

I will wait until I travel to the Cape and will at that time present both Enid and her sister with copies of my book personally.

Ray, I finally got around to your web sit and I am shocked that someone would do such a thing as to walk away with Enid's signed book from you. I will ask Enid when I next contact her, I am sure she is very disappointed as I am upon reading this- UNBELIEVABLE!!

Well Ray, when you next visit the Cape in Australia be sure to let us know and I'm sure the world is ready for more of your research/exploration.

To all who love this wonderful story of the stoicism and will to live of Barbara Crawford Thompson [cast away at age thirteen years and rescued aged 18] my email is ray.j.warren@hotmail.com.

Paul, I do hope you have enjoyed Barbara's story as much as I have, now that you have the book in your possession. Twenty three years research feels like only 23 days as she managed to completely take over my life.

Louisa, the book did get to Nurapai but disappeared from there. I have donated a copy to the Library on the mainland [Injune?] the name escapes me but will be coming as soon as I get the time. Barbara's story is very different from that which was known and now her entire life is out there in the open. Also, the Gateway does have a copy or two floating about if you want to try there.

    Regards

To all who would like to purchase the Book Wildflower" The Barbara Crawford Thompson Story", it can be ordered by contacting me personally on ray.j.warren@hotmail.com. Many changes have been discovered in a 23 year research done on this story and all that read of her heroic battle for survival will be astounded at the true events surrounding her abandonment on an island inhabited only by headhunting cannibals. Read how in reality, three girls all went missing at the same time, all from the same family, how the two older girls were never found [Mary 15 years and Ann 13 years] and also learn how a modern day miracle occurred in October 2007, 158 years almost to the day after her rescue at Murralagh Island.

Thank you to all the fans of Barbara Crawford Thompson, you have made her history popular [at least in the UK] and are helping to create recognition of her struggle and suffering and the assistance to the Australian officials in providing intelligence for Northern Australia at a time when so little was known about the natives and the environment in that area.

Barbara Crawford Thompson needs to be officially recognized, especially in Australia where her story barely raises a comment. The problem of course, has been that her story has been so well hidden that it took the Author 23 years to uncover her life story. For those who have found an interest in her story thank you and please let any and all [especially the media] know that there is a historic figure out there who does not even have a headstone on her grave.
