Running Time: 60 minutes (approx)

Last Party at the Palace tells the story of the last debutantes' season in 1958 and a group of women profoundly shaped by it. Through their eyes, the programme presents an introduction to the dying days of an aristocratic ritual that had lasted almost 200 years. A record number of debutantes took part in that last 1958 season: girls prepared for a world of privilege and tradition. But it was the calm before the storm. In the decades that followed, the world changed in ways unimaginable to young ladies of their class and generation. The programme looks at how the lives of the last debutantes developed during the ensuing decades of profound social and cultural change.
