I'm in the USA and would like to see this program. Will it be broadcast over here, or could I get a copy of the program? I have only seen a few minutes of it on video.

We have been fascinated by these animals, especially the artistic elephant, is there a DVD covering this current series available for purchase? If yes, how can I obtain one?

    Thank you

    Maggie - The Mathematical Dog

It's a lovely series of programmes and Maggie is a very attentive dog. But I don't think the experiments shown in this programme are sufficiently complex and thoroughly thought out to determine what is really happening.

At the end of the programme Maggie suddently (calculates?) the square root of 49. That seems much more complicated than plus, minus, multiplication and division.

An important aspect that I don't know if the scientific experts were sufficiently aware about is that the dog might need to feel very secure to be able to do whatever it is that it is so good at. A way of testing this could be if the owner was behind a window, where the dog could see her and therefore feel secure, but without her knowing which math problems are being presented to the dog.

Another experiment that seems relevant to me, whould be that the owner is behind a (folding) screen, so that she can hear the math problems and the dog knows she is there, but cannot see her.

I think the results of these 2 experiments would make us wiser on what it is the dog is doing.

    Best regards,

    H. Rosenø
