Never mind the X-Files - this is a heady mix of secrecy, government conspiracy theory and unexplained deaths, with a whiff of alien involvement to boot.

'Area 51' is the name given to an airbase in Nevada that doesn't officially exist, and the test site for America's most sensitive projects from the U-2 to the B-2 Stealth Bomber and the mysterious Aurora Project.

Investigating the skulduggery is Phil Patton, author of Dreamland: Travels Inside the Secret World of Area 51, who is interviewed extensively. The programme also visits the tiny Nevada town of Rachel, which borders the base, and digs deep to see if the truth is really out there...
