This documentary series is a social experiment in which a family volunteer to live in a house which has been specially adapted for how it would be during wartime Britain.

On arrival, the chosen family, the Hymers, arrive at the house that is to be their home for the next two months.

They are instructed to put up blackout curtains without delay as non-compliance will lead to a fine from their already meagre household budget.

Plus, the construction of their Anderson shelter proves to be backbreaking work.
