DIY SOS

Production Country: UK

Lowri Turner and Nick Knowles are back with the home improvement show that rescues people and their relationships from DIY disaster.

Each week, two teams led by Lowri and Nick tackle two different DIY disasters - one of which is selected by the viewers.

Nick and his team - Bob, Brigid, Jules, Billy, and Chris - are in Cardiff to help Julian and Denise. Julian called for help from the DIY SOS team after Denise knocked down a kitchen wall in the early hours - to rearrange the shape of the room!

At the end of each programme, viewers vote on who they think most deserves the aid of Lowri's DIY SOS team. Pleading for help are Vicky, whose husband Darren who has a proven ability to take doors off but lacks the skill to put them back on; Mike and Myette from Taunton, whose bathroom has never been the same since Mike's dad tried to sort out the shower; and the Dorset couple who are the victims of the Seventies obsession with polystyrene ceiling tiles.

It was so nice to finally see a cosmic ceiling created on tv. We are a couple based in the leicestershire area who design and create Cosmic Ceilings but untill now the idea of a Cosmic ceiling has been widely unknown.

The Ceilings are virtually invisible by day but when the lights go out a dazzling display of stars, planets, shooting stars, gas clouds and much more appear as if by magic. Kids are amazed and because the Cosmic ceilings give off a soft glow night lights are no longer needed both saving you money and helping to reduce your carbon footprint.

Great to see Superstars make it to the TV!

    Sleep with Superstars!

Superstars from Superstars FX are a new way of creating colourful glow in the dark ceilings. The effects are virtually invisible by day, but when darkness falls the ceiling becomes a kaleidoscope of glowing coloured stars.

The magical effect is achieved by taking advantage of the latest advances in specialist paints, which charge themselves up in daylight and then glow throughout the night. As well as Superstars, we can also use the techniques to create shooting stars, nebulae, milky ways.

They are perfect for adults as well as children.

“It’s very relaxing and reassuring. Children who have trouble sleeping or who are frightened of the dark seem to benefit from Superstars, but grown-ups are equally taken with the effects. “

We at Superstars FX have created many ceilings similar to the one on the DIY SOS show and if it is something that appeals to you please contact us.

The DIY SOS programme that's on tonight (Friday, 27th June 2008) includes a 'student' of mine who I taught how to create Star Ceilings last year.

A star ceiling (or Cosmic Ceiling as they are more commonly known) is created using specialised paints and equipment.

The amazing aspect of them is that the effects are invisisble during the day but at night the ceiling comes to life full of stars, constellations, galaxies, planets, shooting stars, Milky Way......and more.

    Kids absolutely love them.

The programme tonight features my student creating a star ceiling in a boys bedroom in Swansea.

    Hi,

I have an external well (Approx 50ft deep) which i have taken down to ground level and intend to install lighting at intervals to the bottom. I wish to cover this with glass so it can be walked over. I think a retaining wall will need erecting around 1/2 of the well to the upper level of the garden and patio laying to the well so at the same level. I have renovated the majority of our 250 yr old cottage myself but am stumped by this problem, we have a dog and a nephew and niece who cannot use the garden at all because we cannot cover it safely, any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, John

    Hi there.

I watched DIY SOS last night and there was a kitchen makeover which included a stainless steel kitchen sink with an arched splashback running along the back of the sink / drainer. Can you tell me the manufacturer of this sink. Really appreciate it and love the show. Lorraine

    Hello

I hope you are able to help me. I live in a very small house which needs some repairs in every room. It is basically sound (except for the attic rom which has had a plant growing through the wall) but just looks a horrible. I live with my husband and 2 childen, one aged 7 and the other a 15 month old baby. It is a 2 bedroom house with one an attic. My problem is I have 1 girl and a 15 month old son who are at present sharing the attic room. We are desparate to get our house repaired with a view to selling and moving to a 3 bedroomed (we also have a dog and a cat)- just a bit cramped!. We are in desparate need of help. My husband can paint but we need a builder for the rest!

Not had a lot of luck in the past and would appreciate some help.

    Thank you.

    Elaine

    Hi

Our organisation is the treasurer for the local community centre which serves two deprived estates in south Sheffield. The centre is run by volunteers only, was built in the late 60s and hasn't changed since ! It is underused and is very unwelcoming and basically very ugly. We could really do with some help to bring it into the 21st century and make it a happy, attractive and welcoming place for the whole community, somewhere where they actually want to go.

    Can you help ?

    Thank you

    Jo Chandler
