Sue runs a cattery for unwanted cats, Sue works running two chartiety shops and does car boot sales to raise the money for the cats and vet bills.Sue had paid up front 19 thousand pounds to have new roof put on the extions and bathroom put in with under floor heating,And other drainge work, the bathroom has not been finished and roof still leaks, when you flushes toliet it ran into garden.Sue has written and phoned to builder and had no response.I have taken phots of the mess that was left behind. Any help would be good. Thanks
I think it might be creditable to your programme if your decoraters could use professional paint brushes instead of cheap store ones.No qualified decorator I no of uses rubbish materials. thanks steve
The Cowboy Trap, in my view is sending out the wrong message to the general public! For example : the practice of fixing joinery - skirtings, architraves etc., `in the white` ie un-knotted and un-primed is bad practice! It is a fallacy to suggest that timber which has been `treated` is a substitute for knotting and priming, failure to do so will result in resin from knots weeping through paintwork leaving unsightly stains on the finished work, also priming is essential to provide a good base for subsequent paintwork and also to provide a `balancer` ( as per laminate worktops) to prevent atmospheric condensation and stability to the timber. This is just one example of the un-professional methods typified by your programme.
We had a very bad experience with a builder, we agreed to engage a small building firm to build a small extension, plans were prepared by an architect and calculations completed by a structural engineer, Unfortunately the builder failed to install the structural steel correctly, as a result the outer skin of the property collapsed, this cause considerable damage to the internal structure. The result we had to engage another builder to complete the work £25k to repair and complete the work (this nearly doubled the original price.
The original builder assured us that he was insured, in the event he was not and simply advised us that he was prepared to go bankrupt if we pursued him for the cost of the repair, any advice?
I am disgusted that BBC licence payers money is used to put these jobs right, and watching the program this money must run in to thousands of pounds in some circumstances. I need laminate flooring in my living room if I contact the BBC would they come and supply and lay the laminate using licence payers money, licence payers would be in uproar so where is the difference?
I have watched this programme and can't for the life of me understand how any of this work could have got to this stage without being stopped by the Local Council Building Inspector(s).
9 out of 10 times the customer is at fault by not using their 'common sense'
Also why are the builders not named and shamed at all times when making this programme, even if you cannot reach them by phone name them to stop others using them and falling into the same trap.
Also I would mention that I am not particularly impressed with your presenter Clive Holland, he himself looks more like and bouncer than a builder.
Note: Not all builder are baldy and beefy. I would feel intimidated by him.
Also looking at the finishes after your guys have their turn somes of the work needs improving. I realise that they are correcting badworkmanship, but please let the finish be a little more impressive.
I am married to a builder and he as been in the trade for over 38yrs. and the workmanship nearly made him cry.
His words were "he only wished he could find these sort of mugs who pay money up front"
9 out 10 times my husband pays and waits weeks for payment. We also state on estimate/quote what work is involved and if the customer wants more than is written down (which 9 out of 10 times they do) we always ask them to read estimate. That way there is no comeback on our part.
Yet another program extolling the virtues of the niceic (episode twenty)misleading as their are five goverment registered electrical part p schemes. Why do you not give the names of the others so we all have a level playing field. An unforgivable lack of research by the program makers, shame on you.
