Not the Nine O'Clock News

Series charting the history of some of the best British comedy programmes looks at 1970s/80s sketch show Not the Nine O'Clock News, which made stars of Rowan Atkinson, Pamela Stephenson, Griff Rhys Jones and Mel Smith. The pilot was never broadcast because its political content rendered it unsuitable for transmission once the 1979 general election was called. Critics hated the first series but by the second it had hit its stride.
